Exciting album release – on Friday the 13th! 🎃 | chitchat

Friday the 13th never sounded so tasty!!

Today I woke up in something I can only describe as a slight panic. Because I knew that it was time. The album I’ve been pining for is finally out!!

So I’m an avid music lover. These past few years I’ve been following along closely with bands and artists I love. And one band in particular has had my full and utter attention ever since I discovered them:

SKYHILL.

The lead singer is Dan Avidan, with Peter Lennox working the electronic magic. Skyhill is my all-time favorite band, which is saying something because they’ve been very not active since their initial forming way back in 2006. In 2007 they released their first album Run With the Hunted, and that album has been my partner in crime at so many points in my life. After that they released a single in 2015 and then lastly in 2020.

Here’s me with unofficial merch. Pretty neat right? Soon I’ll be rocking actual real merch because you know I had to pre-order that shizz.

And now Out In The Moonlight is out. Another fully fleshed out ALBUM. 16 years after the first one. It feels unreal. Somebody pinch me. Their music is so atmospheric and chill and haunting. The fact that they NOW, TODAY, IN 2023, have new music for us is a miracle. The album was a surprising continuation of a music career the fans thought ended after one album and two singles. But BOY WERE WE WRONG!

Before I listened to the new album I popped open a bottle of wine, ready to enjoy it to the fullest. And I’m not disappointed at all. There was nothing but bangers, and it felt oddly comforting and emotional to hear a new sound overlayed with what I’m used to. Because it definitely still sounded familiar. Skyhill’s music style is very unique. I’ve never heard anything quite like it. Dan have said that the album Run With the Hunted and the single Firefly were created through tough times, as he went through break-ups at the time of recording and that that worked as a catalyst for creating something that really spoke.

It had a voice, at times a little dark, and the pictures it painted with the lyrics and hypnotic beats were nothing short of beautiful.

The tone for Out In The Moonlight doesn’t have that same «darkness» and desperation in the form of unanswered questions after a life-altering event. It’s more hopeful, especially the second to last song Live Another Day. That’s growth. It’s clear that the band is in a much better place now than they were back in the early 2000s. I love both albums for their different approaches at conveying emotions. Music can be formed through hardship, but also through joy.

This is the song list. My favorites – aside from the three singles The Last Domino, Howling At The Moon and Fireflies – were Ghost Light, From Dust and The Whisper.

Man. I’m so hyped. And HAVE been for the longest time. Two of the songs have been out for years already, but they’ve been revamped. The song Fireflies was called Firefly when it first came out in 2015, and when I heard the new version now, I cried. The final line in that song will be permanently added to my skin sometime in the future, NO DOUBT.

I know that the album will work as inspiration as I tinker away at my writing now! I just felt like sharing a bit of magic with you, because Skyhill is a thing of beauty and deserves so much more recognition. I follow Dan closely on all his endeavors and music projects – which there are a LOT of. He’s in no less than four active bands I believe?? And I’ve actually seen him perform live! Not singing, but comedy. He’s a really REALLY funny comedian as well, and I’m a big fan of his YouTube show Game Grumps along with Arin Hanson. But it’s definitely on my bucket list to experience even just one of his bands. Fingers crossed for a Skyhill tour sooner rather than later!!

My plan for today was to get through work, go home, open my wine bottle, listen to the album, and then watch something spooky scary. And I managed to complete it all – except the last step. Instead I fell asleep super hard and woke up now at 11 pm. And then I wrote this entry, which I rushed a little so it would be done before midnight. So I haven’t exactly lived the scary aspect of Friday the 13th to the fullest. No regrets tho. Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the flowers. In this case the album. Which I will listen to on repeat for eons.

Spook to you soon! đŸ‘»
